Matariki

Tipu made this poster for Matariki. We made stars using tinfoil and sharpies. We have learned that:

Matariki is the Maori New Year.
It is a time to remember the past and look to the future.
At Matariki we honour our whakapapa and the beautiful land in which we live.
There are 7 stars in the Matariki constellation.
When the stars shine brightly it will be a good year for growing food.
Matariki means 'tiny' eyes or 'eyes of God'.
There are lots of different stories about the Matariki stars.
People celebrate Matariki in many ways, telling stories, fishing, weaving, planting crops, flying kites and spending time with whanau and friends.
